Science is
the development of an understanding of how the world works through
observation, investigation and enquiry. The syllabus is based
upon the QCA scheme of work which is modified and supplemented as
appropriate. The scheme builds on children's existing
experience and knowledge and places much emphasis on practical
experience and investigation. |

In KS1 the
science is linked to the class topic. The two complement and
reinforce each other, with the emphasis being largely on practical
experience. |

In KS2
science is taught as a separate subject though linking where
possible with other work. It is taught at two levels to enable
pupils to meet each scientific area at least twice within the Key
Stage and to develop investigative skills. Where possible the
children will have some practical experience in each lesson.
At this level the children are asked to develop their own ways
of testing ideas fairly, gathering evidence to support their
ideas, to evaluate the test and to communicate their findings to the
rest of the class |
